Oyamazumi Shrine

Japanese: 大山祇神社

This shrine is located on Omishima Island in the Seto Inland Sea, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. It is listed in the Engishiki. The deity enshrined is Oyamatsumi-no-Kami. It is the Ichinomiya of Iyo Province. It is the head shrine of all Oyamazumi Shrines and Mishima Shrines throughout Japan. It is also known for protecting the seas, having been revered by the Kono clan, who led the Mishima Navy, and is known as the general guardian of Japan. The main hall and other buildings are designated as important cultural properties, and the camphor trees surrounding the grounds are designated as a national natural monument. It owns many cultural properties, including a dark blue silk armor (national treasure) from the Heian period.

愛媛県今治市、瀬戸内海の大三島にある神社。延喜式内社。祭神は大山積神(おおやまつみのかみ)。伊予国一之宮。全国の大山祇神社、三島神社の総本社。三島水軍を率いた河野氏の崇敬を受けたことから海上守護でも知られ、日本総鎮守の号を持つ。本殿などは国の重要文化財、境内を囲むクスノキ群は国の天然記念物に指定。平安時代の紺絲威鎧（国宝）をはじめとする多数の文化財を所有する。
