Lygaeid bug (long stink bug)

Japanese: ナガカメムシ(長亀虫) - ナガカメムシ（英語表記）lygaeid bug

A general term for insects in the Hemiptera family, Lygaeidae. The antennae have four segments and, when viewed from the side, emerge below the line connecting the center of the compound eyes to the top of the head, which distinguishes them from the closely related family, Coreidae (whose antennae emerge above the line mentioned above). The membranous part of the wing has only four or five coarse veins. Many species are long and slender, hence the name. The anterior femora are sometimes enlarged and have spines on the underside. This large family has more than 3,000 recorded species worldwide, with more than 50 species distributed in Japan. They are herbivorous, but some species are also insectivorous.

半翅目ナガカメムシ科Lygaeidaeの昆虫の総称。触角は4節で側面から見たとき，複眼の中央と頭頂を結ぶ線より下から出ている点で，近縁のヘリカメムシ科(触角は上記の線より上から出る)と区別される。膜質部の翅脈は粗く4～5本があるのみである。細長い種が多いのでこの名がある。前腿節はときに肥大し下面にとげがある。大きな科で世界から3000種以上も記録され，日本には50種以上が分布する。植食性であるが，ときに食虫性を兼ねる種類もいる。
