...General term for arthropods belonging to the order Acari (= Acarina, Acarida) of the class Arachnida. The English name is "tick" for ticks of the suborder Ixodida (family Ixodida and family Arachnida), and all other mites are called "mite."

They are small, measuring 0.2mm to 2cm in body length, with most measuring 0.5 to 1mm.
