In May of the following year, he defeated him, creating a situation where there was no Shugo and trying to rule the country. In 1528 (Kyoroku 1), Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiharu granted him the right to wear a white umbrella bag and a felt saddle cover, which successfully raised the family's status. In 1536 (Tenbun 5), he was defeated in a battle with Uesugi clan leader Kamijo Sadanori and other powerful feudal lords who opposed the expansion of the Nagao clan's power, and retired, handing the family headship over to Nagao Harukage.
