Protractor

A drafting instrument used to determine and measure angles. Usually, a semicircular plastic sheet with 180-degree markings is used. There are also circular plastic sheets with 360-degree markings and thin metal sheets. There are also highly accurate marked protractors, but devices that measure angles easily without precision are usually called protractors. To measure angles precisely, more accurate measuring instruments such as angle gauges are used.

角度を割り出したり、測定するときに用いられる製図器具。普通半円形のプラスチックの薄板に180度の目盛りをつけたものが用いられる。またプラスチックの円形薄板に360度の目盛りを施したものや、金属の薄板を使用したものもある。精度の高いものとして遊標付き分度器もあるが、あまり精度を問題にしないで手軽に角度を測るものが普通、分度器とよばれている。細かく角度を測定するのには角度ゲージのような、より精度の高い測定器が使用される。
