Madeira River (English spelling)

Japanese: マデイラ[川]（英語表記）Rio Madeira

The largest tributary of the Amazon. The Mamoré River originates in the Andes in Bolivia, and merges with the Beni River near the border between Bolivia and Brazil to become the Madeira River. It flows roughly southeast and joins the main river from the right bank near Itacoatiara, about 150 km east of Manaus. It has a total length of about 3,350 km, and a drainage area of 1,380,000 km2. It has a large flow rate, and many sections are more than 1 km wide, and its navigable course stretches for 1,290 km to the Santo Antonio Falls, slightly upstream from Porto Velho.

アマゾン川の最大の支流。ボリビアのアンデス山中に源を発するマモレ川は，ボリビアとブラジルの国境近くでベニ川を合流してマデイラ川と呼ばれるようになり，ほぼ南東に流れてマナウスの東約150kmのイタコアティアラの近くで右岸から本流に合流する。全長は約3350km，流域面積は138万km2。流量が豊富で，川幅も1km以上の区間が多く，可航流路はポルト･ベリョのやや上流にあるサント･アントニオ滝までの1290kmに及ぶ。
