Around May, people who walked around town selling flowering plants, eggplant, loofah, gourd and other seedlings on a scale. Their distinctive, drawn-out voices calling out "morning glory seedlings, evening glory seedlings..." were a part of the early summer scenery in the city. They had been around since the Edo period, but have disappeared in recent years.
