Born in the first year of the Koji era. He was a close aide to Tokugawa Ieyasu and served as a tutor to the second shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada. In 1603, he became the Kanto Magistrate and Edo Magistrate together with Aoyama Tadanari, but in 1616, both were ousted. He died on October 20, 1616, at the age of 54.
