(1) A medieval samurai family in Suo and Nagato. A senior vassal of the Ouchi clan, they held the position of Nagato Shugodai from the mid-15th century. The family name was derived from the Fujiwara clan of Udoneri, and is said to be either of Hidesato or Michinaga lineage, but there is no confirmation. The character "mori" was used as the common character. According to historical documents from the mid-Kamakura period, they held land stewardship in Owari Province, and a family tree states that they held land during the Heian period, so they were likely samurai who had their base in the eastern provinces and served in Kyoto. In 1187 (Bun'ei 3), Naito Moritsune and others embezzled rice tax from Todaiji Temple in Suo Province, and in 1190 (Kenkyu 1), Naito Moriie invaded the land of Iwashimizu Betsumiya in Toishi Manor in Suo Province. The clan's activities in Suo were conspicuous in the early Kamakura period, and it is clear that they acquired new land in Suo. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
