〘 noun 〙 A respiratory organ found in the larvae, pupae, and occasionally adults of aquatic insects. It is a protrusion of the epidermis that can be leaf-shaped, pouch-shaped, or thread-shaped and is often found on the abdomen or tail. In insects with tracheal gills, the spiracles have degenerated.
