Kumihama Bay

A lagoon facing the Sea of ​​Japan in northwest Kyoto Prefecture. Located in Kumihama-cho, Kyotango City, it is separated from the Sea of ​​Japan by a 3-kilometer-long sand spit called Shotenkyo. It is a small, bag-shaped bay with a circumference of about 20 kilometers and an area of ​​about 7.1 square kilometers, and connects to the Sea of ​​Japan through a narrow channel at the mouth of the bay. Blessed with beautiful scenery, the area is part of San'in Kaigan National Park, and in the summer, Shotenkyo is a popular swimming beach.

京都府北西部の日本海に臨む潟湖。京丹後(きょうたんご)市久美浜町にあり、日本海とは長さ3キロメートルの小天橋(しょうてんきょう)とよばれる砂嘴(さし)によって隔てられる。周囲約20キロメートル、面積約7.1平方キロメートルの袋状の小湾で、湾口の狭い水道によって日本海に通じている。風光に恵まれ、一帯は山陰海岸国立公園の一部であり、また夏は、小天橋は海水浴場としてにぎわう。
