A town in Sorachi County in central Hokkaido. Located between Sunagawa City and Bibai City, it is served by the Hakodate Main Line and the Do-o Expressway. There used to be coal mines in the mountains in the east, but they closed in 1973. Rice farming is thriving in the flat land along the Ishikari River in the west, and agricultural processing and precision machinery production are also carried out. Area: 88.19 km2 .
