French porcelain and its kilns. A soft-paste porcelain kiln founded in Chantilly around 1725 by Louis-Henri de Bourbon, Marquis de Condé. The Marquis showed a passion and interest in Far Eastern porcelain, especially Japanese Kakiemon and Imari porcelain, which were popular in Europe at the time, and had Kakiemon-style porcelain produced. Early examples with milky white grounds were copies of the finest Kakiemon-style porcelain in Europe. However, from 1750 onwards, the colors changed to warmer, slightly yellowish tones, and the shapes and decorations of the vessels gradually shifted to those in the style of Meissen porcelain.
