The third emperor of the Later Zhao Dynasty of the Sixteen Kingdoms of China (reigned 334-349). Cousin of Shi Le of the Jie tribe. His pen name was Jilong. His posthumous name was Emperor Wu. Although he was cruel, he had leadership skills as a military commander and was trusted by Shi Le. It was largely due to Shi Hu's power that Later Zhao was able to unify northern China. After Shi Le's death, he killed Shi Hong, who succeeded him, and became King of Zhao, moving his capital to Ye. He ruled with cruelty and repeatedly raised armies to invade foreign lands, but to no avail. He became emperor in the first year of Taining (349), but died the same year, and the Shi clan was soon wiped out.

中国，五胡十六国の後趙の第3代皇帝 (在位 334～349) 。羯 (けつ) 族の石勒の従子。字は季竜。諡は武帝。性質は残忍であったが，武将としての統率力をもっていたので石勒に信任された。後趙が華北を統一したのも石虎の力によるところが大きい。石勒死後，その跡を継いだ石弘を殺してみずから居摂趙天王となり，都を鄴 (ぎょう) に移した。残虐な政治を行い，また再三外征の軍を起したが実効はなかった。太寧1 (349) 年皇帝の位についたが，同年没し，まもなく石氏も滅びた。
