Collection of historical documents - Shiseki Shuran

Collection of historical documents - Shiseki Shuran

A series of historical documents from before the Meiji period. Excluding large historical documents. 364 volumes, 467 books, 1 general commentary book, Japanese binding. Edited by Kondo Heijyo (also known as Hajime Keizo), a Confucian scholar from the former Mikawa Okazaki Domain. Published from 1881 (Meiji 14) to 1885. Following in the footsteps of Hanawa Hokiichi, Heijyo planned to compile historical documents that were not included in Hanawa Hokiichi's Gunsho Ruiju, established the Kondo Printing Company in his own home in Fukagawa, Tokyo, and recruited subscribers by subscription. His son Keizo handled the administration and published the books. This was the first limited subscription publication. In 1883, 14 volumes of Shiseki Shuran Shiryo Sosho (containing books of unknown authors from the Edo period) were published in Japanese binding. From 1893 to 1898, 71 volumes of Zoku Shiseki Shuran were published in Japanese binding (later reorganized into 10 Western-style volumes). Then, in 1900, they started publishing "Kaishoku Shiseki Shuran" by omitting publications by other companies and adding new bibliographies. During this time, they moved to Iida-cho, Kojimachi-ku, and changed their name to Kondo Publishing Department. After Heijyo's death in 1901, Keizo took over, and in 1903 they completed 459 Western-bound books (27 volumes), 3 extra volumes (5 volumes), a general commentary and a bibliographic index. The new feature was that it included many memoranda, battle records, and essays from the Muromachi and Edo periods. Since "Zoku Gunsho Ruiju" was later published, there are many overlaps. Several copies were made after World War II, and of these, 33 volumes of "Kaishoku Shiseki Shuran" are copies of Heijyo and Keizo's edition (Rinkawa Shoten, 1983-1984). "Shin-tei Zoho Shiseki Shuran" (43 volumes and 1 supplementary volume) are copies from the same bookstore, but some have been deleted and some have been newly reprinted, and the organization has been changed. The sequel also includes 10 volumes of the Western-style "Shoku Shiseki Shuran." Published between 1960 and 1973. Later, a new volume, "Jomoku Taisei Sho," was added as part of the "Kuge" section (published in 1984).
