Auxiliary ventilation

Japanese: 局部通気 - きょくぶつうき（英語表記）auxiliary ventilation

A method of ventilation in which a fan is installed in the tunnel where the main ventilation is carried out, and the air is guided by a duct to the end of the tunnel. In coal mines and other mines, a main fan is installed near the entrance to provide main ventilation for the entire tunnel, but the main ventilation does not flow into the tunnels that extend from some of these tunnels, so a special ventilation method is required. Fans used for this purpose are called local fans, and small to medium-sized axial fans are used. In addition, during local ventilation, a phenomenon called "wheel wind" can occur in which part of the exhaust air mixes with the incoming air and is recirculated, so ventilation efficiency and especially safety precautions must be taken.

主要通気の行われている坑道に扇風機を設けて入気をとり，風管によって鉄砲延 (一本坑道) の延び先近くまで通気を導く方式。炭鉱，鉱山では坑口付近に主要扇風機を設けて，全坑の通気網に対する主要通気を行なっているが，これらの坑道の一部から延びている袋坑道には主要通気は流入しないので，特別な通気法が必要である。この目的に用いる扇風機を局部扇風機といい，小型ないし中型の軸流ファンが用いられる。また局部通気の際，車風と呼ばれる排気の一部が入気に混入して再循環する現象が起ることがあり，通気能率，特に保安上注意が必要である。
