1706‐67 Professor of medicine and botany at the University of Montpellier in France, he advocated a unique theory of disease classification. Rather than considering anatomical or etiological factors, he followed Sydenham's view of disease classification and classified diseases into 10 classes based on clinical symptoms, which were further subdivided into orders (44), genera (315), and species (2,400). After publishing his book "Species of Diseases" (1731), the research he completed was published posthumously as "Discourse on the Classification of Diseases" (1768). Linnaeus also classified diseases in a similar way. [Furukawa Akira] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
