A former town in Tsukuba County in the southwest of Ibaraki Prefecture. It was incorporated as a town in 1985. The northeast is a plateau, and the southwest is a lowland along the Kokai River. The town's name comes from Ina Chuji, who contributed to flood control of the Kokai River in the early Edo period. In addition to rice, onions, carrots, and other crops are cultivated here. There are many golf courses. Located within 50 km of central Tokyo and adjacent to Tsukuba Science City, residential development is underway. This is the birthplace of Mamiya Rinzo, and his childhood home has been restored. The Tsukuba Express opened in 2005. In March 2006, it merged with Yawara Village in Tsukuba County to become a city, Tsukubamirai City. 45.54 km2 . 茨城県南西部,筑波郡の旧町。1985年町制。北東部は台地で,南西部は小貝(こかい)川沿いの低地。町名は江戸時代初期,小貝川治水に貢献した伊奈忠治に由来。稲作のほかネギ,ニンジンなどの栽培が盛ん。ゴルフ場が多い。都心から50キロ圏内であることと筑波研究学園都市に接することから,宅地開発が進められている。間宮(まみや)林蔵の出身地で生家が復元されている。2005年つくばエクスプレスが開業。2006年3月,筑波郡谷和原村と合併し市制,つくばみらい市となる。45.54km2。2万5771人(2003)。
