Born on July 17, 1828. Son of Arima Yorinori. In 1840, he succeeded his elder brother Yorinaga as the 11th lord of the Arima clan in Kurume Domain in Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture). He encouraged industrial development and introduced modern military equipment. In 1871, he was placed under house arrest by the new government for hiding Oraku Gentarou and others within the domain.
