A daily newspaper published in Kochi before World War II that was affiliated with the Liberal Party and later the Seiyukai Party. It was founded in 1877 after the merger and title change of Kainan Shinshi and Doyo Zasshi. It ceased publication in April 1878, but in 1880, the second Doyo Shimbun was launched on December 14, 1881 as a substitute newspaper for the second Kochi Shimbun, the organ newspaper of Risshisha. Substitute newspapers were invented by civil rights newspapers as a means to counter the Meiji government's suppression of newspapers, which used the suspension of publication as a weapon. In addition to the main newspaper A, the same newspaper company would obtain permission to publish paper B or C in advance, and if paper A was suspended, paper B would be published in its place.
