Morio - Doyo

Japanese:
Morio - Doyo

Also read as "Toyo." A scholar and politician from the Jin Dynasty in China. Born in Duling (Shaanxi Province). His courtesy name was Yuan Kai. He served as the Governor of Henan and Governor of Qinzhou, and was the Grand General of the Southern Region. He was made the Marquis of Dangyang County for his achievement in subjugating Wu, but in his later years he devoted himself to learning. His works include "Shunju Jingchuan Jiji" and "Shunju Shakurei." "Shunju Jingchuan Jiji" brings together the classic texts of the "Shunju" and "Zuo Zhuan," which had been separate until then, into one book, separates the texts of "Zuo Zhuan" to correspond to the classic texts, establishes the theory of the Spring and Autumn Examples, and culminates Zuo Zhuan studies as the Spring and Autumn Studies. In the "Spring and Autumn Commentaries" (Shuiyushu), he concretely explained the examples in the "Spring and Autumn Annals," and also examined and illustrated place names, genealogies, calendar dates, etc. In terms of interpretation, he also collected the best annotations by Confucian scholars, and established the position of the "Zuo Zhuan" in the study of the Spring and Autumn Annals.
