Vietnamese novelist. His real name was Nguyen Sen. Born in Ha Dong Province near Hanoi, he worked as a teacher, worker, craftsman, and other positions from his youth before deciding to pursue a career in literature. After his children's story The Grasshopper's Voyage (1941) was well received, he gained recognition as a writer with The Other Country (1942), which tells the story of the lives of wandering weavers and farmers who abandon their hometowns due to poverty and unemployment. He was involved in the anti-French independence movement early on, and in 1938 he joined the Democratic Front movement, becoming secretary of the Weavers' Friendship Association. From 1943 onwards, he was active in the Communist Party's National Salvation Cultural Association, and after the August Revolution of 1945, he became a Communist Party member in 1946.

ベトナムの小説家。本名グエン･センNguyen Sen。ハノイ近郊のハドン省に生まれ，青年時代から教師や労働者，職人などを経験しながら文学を志した。童話《キリギリスの漂流記》(1941)が好評を博したあと，貧困と失業のため生れ故郷の村を捨てて放浪する機織職人や農民の生活を書いた《他郷》(1942)で，作家として認められた。早くから抗仏独立運動に関係し，1938年民主戦線運動に加わって機織職人愛友会の書記となり，43年以後共産党の救国文化会で活動し，45年の八月革命を経て46年に共産党員となった。
