French physicist. Born in Dip. He graduated from the University of Paris after studying literature and history, but after attending the first Solvay Congress in 1911, which his brother Maurice César Maurice de Broglie (1875-1960) also attended, he decided to study theoretical physics and resumed his studies at the Faculty of Science. He graduated in 1913, but was drafted into the army during World War I and served in the army radio unit at the Eiffel Tower. After being discharged, he was finally able to resume his physics studies in 1920. When the particle nature of light became clear from the results of A.H. Compton's X-ray scattering experiments in 1922, he aimed to establish the correspondence between the particle nature and wave nature of light and electrons, and as a result, he clarified that the formula E = h ν, p = h /λ, which is the basis of Einstein's light quantum theory, is a general formula that can be applied to any material particle or light ( E is energy, h is Planck's constant, ν is the frequency of light, λ is the wavelength, and p is momentum).

フランスの物理学者。ディプの生れ。文学と歴史を学んでパリ大学を卒業したが，兄モーリスCésar Maurice de Broglie(1875‐1960)も出席した1911年の第1回ソルベー会議を契機に，理論物理学の研究を志し，理学部で再び学ぶ。13年に卒業したが，第1次世界大戦のため徴兵されてエッフェル塔で陸軍無線班の任務に服し，除隊後，20年にようやく物理学の研究を再開できた。22年のA.H.コンプトンのX線散乱の実験結果などから光の粒子性が明確になると，光や電子における粒子性と波動性の対応関係の確立を目ざし，その結果，アインシュタインの光量子説の基礎にある式E＝hν,p＝h/λが，任意の物質粒子や光に適用できる一般式であることを明らかにした(Eはエネルギー，hはプランク定数，νは光の振動数，λは波長，pは運動量)。
