Vesperbild

...This is one of the so-called "Andachtsbild" (prayer statues) that appeared in the late Middle Ages, and was made for individuals to pray before in hopes of salvation for their souls. In Germany, it is called "Vesperbild" (evening prayer statue), which comes from the fact that funeral prayers are offered on the evening of Good Friday. The circumstances surrounding the creation of this statue are unclear, but its connection to the writings of mystics such as H. Seuse is often pointed out.
