Ontology

…The term goes back to the Latin ontologia, or philosophia de ente, which is derived from the Greek on (what is) and logos (science), and is derived from the German Aristotelian Rudolf Goclenius in the early 17th century. In the middle of the same century, the German Cartesian Johann Clauberg also called it ontosophia and interpreted it as metaphysics of beings.
