Leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and poet. Born Nguyen Kim Thanh in Thua Thien Province, central Vietnam, he was active in the Youth Democratic Movement and the anti-French movement while attending high school in Hue. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam at the age of 18 and was arrested in 1939. After escaping prison in 1942, he published poems in political magazines under the name To Hue, and became known as a revolutionary poet. He later used this pen name as a politician. In the August Revolution of 1945, he led the struggle for power in Hue, and after independence, he gradually established himself within the Communist Party, becoming a Central Committee member and a member of the Secretariat in 1951.

ベトナム共産党の指導者，詩人。本名グエン･キム･タインNguyen Kim Thanh。中部ベトナムのトゥアティエン省に生まれ，フエの高校在学中から青年民主運動で活動し，抗仏運動に入った。18歳でベトナム共産党に入党，39年に逮捕されたが，42年に脱獄後トー･ヒューの名で政治誌に詩を発表し，革命派詩人として知られはじめ，以後政治家としてもこの筆名を名のった。45年の八月革命ではフエの奪権闘争を指導し，独立後共産党内でしだいに地歩を築き，51年中央委員，書記局員となった。
