He was the second son of Ando Shintetsu, a samurai of the Tatebayashi Domain in Kozuke Province (Gunma Prefecture). At the age of 11, he was adopted into the Tomita family, relatives on his mother's side, and took his mother's maiden name, Inoue. In his youth, he became familiar with Zen, traveled around the country and learned about social conditions. He became a disciple of Isono Hiromichi and studied medicine, and also became a student of physiognomy practitioner Mizuno Nanboku, learning the breathing techniques of physiognomy, acquiring a wide range of knowledge and skills. For a while, he lived in Edo under the name Inoue Shui, and made a living by divination, but in 1833 (Tenpo 4), he had an experience in which a young woman appeared to him as a messenger of God in a dream. The following year, he entered the Shinto priest Shirakawa family, and in 1831, he became a priest at Umeda Shinmei Shrine in Adachi County, Musashi Province (Saitama Prefecture), and began full-scale Shinto missionary work, attracting many people. However, the Magistrate of Temples and Shrines suspected him of being a new sect that was misleading people, and in May of the same year, he was exiled to Miyakejima. He continued to educate the islanders. His disciples campaigned for his pardon, but failed, and he died on Miyakejima. <Works> Shinto Yuitsu Mondosho <References> Misogi Bunkakai ed., Research on Misogikyo (Junko Inoue) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
