Doi clan

Japanese: 土肥氏 - どひうじ

A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Toi-go, Sagami Province. The Nakamura clan was a powerful clan in the western part of Sagami Province descended from the Kanmu Heishi clan, and their origins began when Nakamura Shoji Sohei's second son Sanehira divided Toi-go into two lands and made it the land of their surname. Sanehira and his son Tonohira joined Minamoto no Yoritomo's army and achieved remarkable merit during the early days of the Kamakura Shogunate. As a result, they held a high position among the Kamakura vassals, and in terms of managing their territories, they gained control of Hayakawa-sho, which bordered Toi-go to the north, and their influence continued to grow day by day. However, in the Wada War of 1213 (Kenpo 1), Tonohira's son Korehira sided with the Wada side along with his fellow Tsuchiya clan members, and Korehira's two sons were killed in battle, and Korehira himself was captured and beheaded. Although the elderly Tonohira managed to maintain his main territory, the decline of the clan was unstoppable.

相模国土肥郷を本領とする中世武家。桓武平氏の流れをくむ相模国西部の雄族中村氏の一族で，中村荘司宗平の次男実平が土肥郷を分領して名字の地としたことにはじまる。実平はその子遠平とともに源頼朝の挙兵に参じ，鎌倉幕府開創期にめざましい勲功をあげた。そのため鎌倉御家人の中でもその地位は高く，所領経営の面でも土肥郷に北接する早河荘を支配下に入れるなど，その勢力は日増しに拡大した。しかし1213年(建保1)の和田合戦で，遠平の子惟平が同族の土屋氏らとともに和田方にくみしたため，惟平の子息2人は討死し惟平も捕らえられたのち斬首となって，老いた遠平がようやく本領を維持したものの，一族の衰退は覆いようもなかった。
