Itochu Corporation - Itochu Corporation
A core general trading company affiliated with the former Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank. In 1858, the first Itoh Chubei (1842-1903) established a wholesale business. In 1914, Itochu (partnership) was established. In 1918, it split into the former Itoh Corporation and Itoh Shoten (later Marubeni Shoten), and these two companies became the parent companies of the current Itoh and Marubeni. In 1941, the former Itoh Corporation, Marubeni Shoten, and Kishimoto Shoten merged and were renamed Sanko. In 1944, Kureha Spinning and Daido Spinning were merged and were renamed Daiken Sangyo. In 1949, due to the Act on the Elimination of Excessive Concentration of Economic Power, it was split into Itoh Corporation, Marubeni, Kureha Spinning (later absorbed by Toyobo), and Amagasaki Nail Works (now Amati). During the period of high economic growth, it sought to move away from its focus on textiles and became a general trading company. In 1977, the company absorbed Ataka Industries, which was in financial crisis, and strengthened its steel and chemical divisions. After that, in 1998, it acquired shares in FamilyMart, and in 2000, it took an equity stake in Seibu Department Store and Yoshinoya. Furthermore, in 2001, it established Marubeni-Itochu Steel, demonstrating new developments. Headquarters in Osaka. Capital in 2011 was 202.2 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 11,392.5 billion yen. Sales breakdown (%) is as follows: textile 5, machinery 7, information and aviation 5, metals and energy 34, materials and chemicals 18, food 27, and finance and others 3.

旧第一勧業銀行系の中核総合商社。1858年初代伊藤忠兵衛〔1842-1903〕が卸売業を創業。1914年伊藤忠(合名)を創設。1918年旧伊藤忠商事と伊藤忠商店(のちの丸紅商店)に分割,この2社は現在の伊藤忠と丸紅の母体となる。1941年旧伊藤忠商事・丸紅商店・岸本商店が合併し,三興に改称。1944年呉羽紡績・大同紡績を合併し,大建産業に改称。1949年過度経済力集中排除法により,伊藤忠商事・丸紅・呉羽紡績(のち東洋紡績に吸収)・尼崎製釘所(現アマティ)に分割。高度経済成長の過程で繊維中心からの脱皮を図り,総合商社化。1977年経営危機に陥った安宅産業を吸収合併し,鉄鋼・化学分野を強化した。その後,1998年にはファミリーマートの株を取得し,2000年には西武百貨店と吉野屋に資本参加。さらに2001年には伊藤忠丸紅鉄鋼を設立するなど新しい動きを示している。本社大阪。2011年資本金2022億円,2011年3月期売上高11兆3925億円。売上構成(%)は,繊維5,機械7,情報・航空5,金属・エネルギー34,資材・化学18,食料27,金融他3。
