A means of communication essential to an advanced information society. It is also called mobile communication. Its main use is voice calls, but in recent years its use for data communication has progressed. It has become possible to easily send information to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Mobile phones and PHS are representative examples. Cordless phones, PDAs, satellite phones, pagers, car phones, train phones, ship phones, and aircraft phones also belong to mobile communications. With the exception of satellite phones and some other exceptions, mobile communication terminals communicate wirelessly to the nearest base station, and communication beyond the base station is conducted by wire, just like regular communication.
