Torsion Balance

Torsion Balance
Also known as a torsion scale. A type of balance that utilizes the fact that the torsion angle of a straight spring is proportional to the force applied. An object is suspended from a thin wire made of metal or fused quartz, a couple force is applied to it, and the couple moment is measured from the angle of torsion. It is suitable for measuring weak forces.
