Lombok Strait - Selat Lombok

A strait between the islands of Bali and Lombok in the Lesser Sunda Islands in central Indonesia. It connects the Indian Ocean and the Flores Sea. It is narrow at about 35 km wide, but quite deep at around 1,300 m. Large tankers travelling between Middle Eastern oil-producing countries and Japan have often passed through here since the restriction of traffic through the Strait of Malacca. Ocean currents change with seasonal winds. Mount Agung (3,142 m) on Bali and Mount Rinjani (3,775 m) on Lombok are good landmarks for the route. The biological line of walas passes through it.

インドネシア中部、小スンダ列島のバリ島とロンボク島の間の海峡。インド洋とフロレス海を結ぶ。幅は約35キロメートルと狭いが、水深は1300メートル内外と相当に深い。中東産油諸国と日本を往復する大型タンカーは、マラッカ海峡の通行規制以来ここを通ることが多くなった。海流は季節風により変化する。バリ島のアグン火山（3142メートル）とロンボク島のリンジャニ火山（3775メートル）は、航路のよき目標である。生物学上のワラス線が通る。
