Japanese: 滝口･横笛 - たきぐちよこぶえ

He is the protagonist of a tragic love story told in Volume 10 of the Tale of the Heike, "Yokobue." After escaping from Yashima, Taira no Koremori visits Takiguchi Nyudo at Mount Koya, becomes a monk, and drowns himself off the coast of Nachi, respecting him as a mentor. The first time Takiguchi Nyudo appears, the chapter "Yokobue" tells the story of his awakening. Saito Takiguchi Tokiyori, who served Taira no Shigemori (father of Koremori), loved Yokobue, a miscellaneous servant at Kenreimon-in, but was reprimanded by his father, Shigeyori, because Yokobue was of low social status. At the age of 19, he became a monk and entered Ojo-in Temple in Saga. Yokobue visited Ojo-in Temple, but Takiguchi did not meet him, fearing that his religious resolve would weaken, and instead secluded himself in Mount Koya.

《平家物語》巻十〈横笛〉に語られる悲恋物語の主人公。屋島を脱出した平維盛が，高野山の滝口入道を訪ねて出家し，また彼を善知識として那智沖で入水するが，滝口入道が登場する初めに，その発心由来譚として語られるのが〈横笛〉の章段である。平重盛(維盛の父)に仕えた斎藤滝口時頼は建礼門院の雑仕（ぞうし）横笛を愛したが，横笛の身分が低いゆえに父茂頼のいさめにあい，19歳で出家して嵯峨の往生院に入った。横笛は往生院を訪ねたが，滝口は道心が弱るのを恐れて会わず，高野山にこもった。
