...The magistrate was in charge of the administration of the Kurume domain. Gion Shrine in Sasayama-cho, said to have been enshrined in the 9th century, is the guardian deity of the Kurume townspeople, and at the Gion Festival held every June, one float from each section competed for beauty. The Suitengu Shrine River Festival, which enshrines the water god of the Chikugo River, was also held with great pomp by the parishioners of Seshimo-cho every November 15th.
