Zhang theory

A Chinese prime minister and poet during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. Born in Luoyang (Luoyang City, Henan Province). His pen name was Shuozhi or Daoji. His posthumous name was Wenzhen. In 688 (4th year of the Suigong era), he passed the Cibiao Wenyuan exam. He was promoted from Prince's Examiner to Fengge Secretary, but rebelled against the powerful minister Zhang Yizhi and was exiled to Qinzhou (Qin County, Guangdong Province). After Zhang Yizhi's death, he was recalled and held various positions, including Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Works. After Emperor Ruizong ascended to the throne, he became prime minister, and was enfeoffed as Duke of Yan during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong. Later, he clashed with the bureaucrats of various clans and was demoted and dismissed, but he returned to his posts each time, and eventually became the Left Prime Minister before his death. As a literary figure, he was a leading figure in the literary world of his time, and was known as the "great writer of Yan and Xu" along with Su Xu, the Duke of Xu. He wrote the Collected Works of Zhang Shuozhi in 25 volumes.

中国、唐玄宗(げんそう)朝の宰相、詩人。洛陽(らくよう)（河南省洛陽市）の人。字(あざな)は説之(えつし)、または道済(どうさい)。諡(おくりな)は文貞。688年（垂拱4）詞標文苑(ぶんえん)科に及第。太子校書郎から鳳閣舎人(ほうかくしゃじん)となったが、権臣張易之(ちょうえきし)に逆らい、欽州(きんしゅう)（広東(カントン)省欽県）に流された。張易之の死後呼び返され、工部侍郎などを歴任。睿宗(えいそう)の即位後宰相となり、玄宗朝には燕(えん)国公に封ぜられた。のち門閥官僚と対立して左遷、罷免の処置を受けたが、そのつど復帰し、左丞相(さじょうしょう)に至って死んだ。文学者としても当時の文壇の指導的立場にあり、許国公の蘇頲(そてい)と並んで「燕許大手筆」と称された。『張説之文集』25巻がある。
