A meritorious official from the founding of the Ming Dynasty in China. A native of Haozhou (Fengyang County, Anhui Province). His courtesy name was Dingchen. In 1352, he joined the army of Guo Zixing, and later served under Zhu Yuanzhang (→Emperor Hongwu), achieving military success and becoming Chief Censor. In 1353, as General of the Southern Expedition, he defeated Fang Guozhen and Chen Youding, and pacified Zhejiang and Fujian. He also assisted Xu Da in the Northern Expedition, fighting in Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Ningxia, and was granted the title of Duke of Xinguo. He also made an outstanding contribution to the defense against Japanese pirates.

中国,明朝創業の功臣。濠州 (安徽省鳳陽県) の人。字は鼎臣。至正 12 (1352) 年郭子興の挙兵に従い,のち朱元璋 (→洪武帝 ) に属して戦功を重ね,御史大夫となった。同 27年には征南将軍として方国珍,陳友定を討ち,浙江,福建を平定した。また徐達を助けて北伐に従事し,山西,陝西,寧夏に転戦,信国公に封じられた。倭寇防衛にも尽力した。
