A trend in Turkish nationalism. Turanism is a general term for the Turkic peoples that are spread across the Eurasian continent, and Turanism is a position that seeks the unity of these peoples. In some cases, the idea of unity also includes people who speak Uralic-Altaic languages in a broad sense, such as Magyar, Finnic, Mongolian, and Tungusic, and the concept of Turanism has a wide range of meanings. Turanism was born among the Turkic peoples under Russian rule in the second half of the 19th century with the aim of escaping from Tsarist rule, and was brought into the Ottoman Empire after the Young Turk Revolution.

トルコ･ナショナリズムの一潮流。トゥランとは，ユーラシア大陸に広がるトルコ系諸民族の総称であり，トゥラン主義は，それら諸民族の一体性を追求しようとする立場である。そこでは，一体たるべきものの中に，マジャール，フィン，モンゴル，ツングース等，広義のウラル･アルタイ系諸言語を話す人々をも含めようとする場合もあり，トゥラン概念は大きな振幅をもっている。ツァーリズム支配を脱する目的で，19世紀後半，ロシア治下のトルコ系住民の間に生まれたトゥラン主義は，〈青年トルコ〉革命後，オスマン帝国内にもちこまれた。
