Toho Gakuen School of Music

Japanese: 桐朋学園 - とうほうがくえん

A private comprehensive school located in Chofu, Tokyo, offering everything from elementary school to university. It began in 1952 when a music department was established at Toho Gakuen Girls' High School. This was a successor to the "Music School for Children" opened by Iguchi Motonari and others for the purpose of early musical education. A junior college was established in 1955, and a university in 1961. The university has only a Faculty of Music, with departments of performance and composition theory.

東京都調布市にある小学校から大学までの私立総合学園。1952年桐朋学園女子高校に音楽科を設けたのが始まり。これは音楽の早期教育のために井口基成らがひらいた〈子供のための音楽教室〉を引き継ぐものだった。1955年短大，1961年大学を設置。大学は音楽学部のみで，演奏，作曲理論の各学科を置く。
