Kako - Kako

...The United States aimed to establish hegemony in the Caribbean region in order to protect its interests and for the sake of its defense strategy, and by the end of World War I, it had controlled the Dominican Republic and Haiti through military occupation and protectorate status, respectively, and, together with the protectorate status of Cuba and Panama, established hegemony in the Caribbean. In response to the United States' hegemonic policy, the countries in the region put up various resistances, such as the armed peasant rebellion known as the Caco in Haiti (1918), resistance to military occupation in the Dominican Republic, and the outbreak of a nationalist revolution in Cuba in 1933, but these were eventually contained, and from the 1930s to the 1950s, dictators who protected the interests of the United States emerged in Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other countries. Caribbean Policy
[Regional Issues]
The first movement to break down this hegemony by the United States was the Cuban Revolution of 1959, which followed a radical path of overthrowing a dictator, fighting anti-American nationalism, and socialist revolution, and became a major turning point not only in the Caribbean but in the modern history of Latin America as a whole.
