Leader - Leader

Japanese: 幢主 - どうしゅ
Leader - Leader
The name of a military officer in Goguryeo and Silla in Korea. From around the 4th century, the word "dang" was used to translate the names of the military corps of northern tribes such as the Mongols. In 6th-century Goguryeo, the highest military officer was Daedangju, and "dangju" is presumably the name of a lower-ranking military officer. The military officer name "dangju" was used extensively in Silla from the mid-6th century onwards. The earliest example of its use is found on the Changnyeong Monument, one of the monuments to King Jinheung built in 561, as the name of a local military officer below Gunshu. From the late 6th century to the mid-7th century, the central military corps of Silla were made up of the private soldiers of aristocrats, and many of these corps and private soldiers had "dang" in their names, and their respective commanders were called "dangdangju".
