…Born in Urbino, after graduating from the University of Florence, he taught at the universities of Milan, Cagliari, and Bologna, and in 1965 became a full professor of the history of modern philosophy at his alma mater. He studied under E. Gallen, a leading figure in Renaissance studies and the current director of the Italian National Institute of Renaissance Studies. His fellow students included C.
