A former town in Okawa County, eastern Kagawa Prefecture. It faces Shido Bay and Oda Bay, and occupies the lower reaches of the Kabe River. The main settlement, Shido, is a port town that prospered from the shipping of sugar. Rice, wheat, vegetables, and fruit are cultivated. Yellowtail, seaweed, and oyster farming are thriving. It is one of the leading producers of paulownia geta (wooden clogs) in the country. It is served by the Takatoku Line and the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway, and is home to Shidoji Temple and the former home of Hiraga Gennai. In April 2002, it merged with Tsuda Town, Okawa Town, Samukawa Town, and Nagao Town to form Sanuki City. 40.04 km2 . Population: 22,939 (2000).
