...In a demon possession case set in a 17th century French monastery, nuns played the role of witches and priests were assigned the role of the devil. Among these demon priests are the priest Louis Gaufridy, who was burned at the stake in Aix in 1661, and the Jesuit Urbain Grandier, who also climbed the stake in 1634. The case surrounding Grandier (the demon possession at Loudun) was made into a film by director Jerzy Kawalerowicz last year (The Nun Johanna, 1960). ...
