Germany's central bank. Deutsche Bundesbank (commonly known as Bundesbank). Headquartered in Frankfurt. Established in 1957 as a centralized reorganization of the state central banks and the Länderbank that replaced the Reichsbank in 1946. Issuance of notes and currency and credit policies are decided independently by the Central Bank Executive Board (composed of the governors of the federal and state central banks). With German unification, in 1990 it also absorbed the central banking operations of the National Bank of the German Democratic Republic (established in 1968 by reorganizing the German note-issuing bank established in 1948).
