The act of connecting the telephone line of a person who wishes to make a call to the telephone line of the other party. Also, the business of doing so. Telephone exchange Machine
[Additional information] In Japan, it began in 1890. At first, connections were made manually by telephone operators, but gradually they were replaced by automatic mechanical exchanges.
