Trunk ganglion

...the efferent elements of the autonomic nervous system are composed of preganglionic and postganglionic neurons.
[Sympathetic nervous system]

[Efferent elements]
The preganglionic neurons of the sympathetic nervous system are those whose cell bodies are located in the spinal cord at the level of the spinal cord segments from the first thoracic to the third lumbar, whose neurites enter the sympathetic trunk from the anterior root of the spinal nerve via the white rami communicating with the sympathetic trunk, and form synapses with the dendrites or cell bodies of the postganglionic neurons of the sympathetic nervous system in the truncal ganglion or prevertebral ganglion. The truncal ganglia are located on both sides of the spinal cord at a height ranging from the neck to the coccyx, with three on each side in the neck, 10-12 in the thoracic, 4-5 in the lumbar, and 3-5 in the sacral, and the sympathetic trunk is what connects them vertically.
