An account of the observations made in the early Edo period. Author unknown. Published during the Jokyo era (1684-88). Manuscript. 13 volumes. This is an account of the frequent large fires that occurred in Edo from November 1682 (Tenwa 2) to February of the following year, and along with detailed records, it tells a story of the people who worked at the scene of the fires and the arsonists. Volumes 11 to 13 in particular deal in detail with the case of the grocer Oshichi, and there are many references that could have been used as material for Saikaku's "Five Amorous Women."
