Upland Cotton

...The native varieties of Indian and Pakistani cotton are 10-20 mm in diameter and are considerably inferior in quality to American cotton. American Upland cotton is inferior in quality to Sea Island cotton, but it is the most abundant of all American cottons, and because of its good quality it is now grown in South America, India, Africa, the former Soviet Union, China, and other places. In recent years, it has become possible to produce synthetic fibers in ultrafine fibers of about 1 μm, and these fibers are used in the manufacture of artificial leather.
