A former Japanese name for fossilized shark teeth. Many shark tooth fossils have been found in the Paleogene and Neogene strata of Japan's Cenozoic Era, and the largest of these, Carcharodon megalodon, was thought to have been left behind by a Tengu. Sekitei Kiuchi, a herbalist from the Edo period, introduced many popular theories surrounding this in his "Tengu Tsumeishi Kidan" and "Ungenshi." At Yugyo-ji Temple in Fujisawa and Benten Shrine in Enoshima, the fossil is worshipped as "Tengu's claw."
