"⑤ Headgear for Noh. A ring-shaped metal crown with openwork carvings of clouds and arabesque patterns. In the center is a standing object such as a moon or a phoenix, and yoraku (garlands) hang from either side. 〘名〙 (「てんがん」とも)① 幼帝が即位のときにつける礼冠(らいかん)。円頂で中央に飾りを立てる。② 仏や天人などがつける宝冠。仏像がつけている冠をもいう。※大安寺伽藍縁起并流記資財帳（747）天平一九年「宍色菩薩天冠銅弐枚」※今昔（1120頃か）一三「天冠を戴ける天人、瓔珞を懸たる(ぼさつ)、員不知ず」③ 冠の一種。騎射または舞楽などに童が用いた金銅の飾りの額当(ひたいあて)の金物。〔西宮記（史籍集覧所収）（969頃）〕④ 高貴な人のつける冠。※浮世草子・国姓爺明朝太平記（1717）一「角こそはへずと、せめて天冠(テングヮン)の下に瘤でもはやし」⑤ 能のかぶり物。金属製の輪状になった冠で、雲形や唐草模様の透かし彫りがある。中央には月や鳳凰などの立物をつけ、左右に瓔珞(ようらく)をたれる。女神、天女、官女などの役に用いる。※浮世草子・新色五巻書（1698）二「かざりやにて天冠(テングヮン)物の見事に拵」
